Interesting to note that excess wool is now being use to help restore boglands In Ireland via the use of wool logs.
A peatland restoration trial on Slievenanee Mountain in Co. Antrim is deploying wool logs to see if they can patch problem parts of the fragile bog ecosystem there.
The logs will hopefully stop water flow and catch sediment to re-establish the conditions required for sphagnum moss to thrive.
With the EU currently pulling Ireland up on the loss of bog habitat, it is heartening to see projects aimed at restoring the island’s bog heritage and positive eco ability.
