On April 17, The US President signed an executive order directing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to “establish a pathway for eligible patients to access investigational psychedelic drugs, including ibogaine compounds.”
While citing the need for solutions to treatment-resistant mental illness, Trump also required the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to allocate $50 million through the Advanced Research Projects for Health (ARPA-H) program to match investments made by state governments to advance research into psychedelic programs for populations with serious mental illness.
Psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, is also included in the research opening up. It has proven to be successful in unlocking deep depression and helping with end of life cancer diagnosis acceptance.
