The Irish mushroom sector’s response to the leap in energy cost inputs on farm was examined in the RTE agri-food TV programme Home Grown which aired at the end of April.
The programme was on farm at the Codd Family Mushrooms unit questioning the head man Leslie Codd on how the economics of the growing process has changed over the past few years. It’s obvious that costs have increased in all the spheres of energy supply, but the company and the sector has responded by diversifying modes of energy supply - from wood chip to solar.
Teagasc advisor Donal Gernon was also interviewed for the programme which is still available to watch on RTE Player. It’s definitely worth a wee watch - Season 3, episode 3.
It was great to see the Codd mushroom unit beautifully showcased by some fabulous drone/ aerial photography and interior shots.
