Poultry has been culled at a premises in Tyrone following a suspected outbreak of bird flu. Northern Ireland's chief vet said he had taken the decision to impose restrictions in the area of the premises near Newtownstewart.
Brian Dooher said he had based the move on clinical signs at the facility and preliminary test results. A temporary control zone was established around the business.
It means enhanced record keeping and certain movement restrictions for poultry businesses within a three kilometre radius of the affected premises. It also includes a housing/isolation order.
Then on the other side of the country there’s been a confirmed outbreak of bird flu in Co. Cork in a flock of swans.
Stalker notes that mushroom maven Paul Stamets in a recent talk identified bird flu as a major threat in relation to a future pandemic.
