The number of workplace deaths in Ireland has increased by 60 per cent during 2025. The surge in deaths was mostly down to agriculture sector incidents. Deaths on farm almost doubled to 23 in the year gone by.
Farming accounted for 40 percent of workplace fatalities while only employing 4 percent of the workforce.
That also makes it more stark how farming is so hazardous.
The news that workplace fatalities have risen so much in the last year is quite abysmal. The tragedy involved for so many is hard to fathom. Health and safety policies and enactment are a must in all workplaces and especially on farm In the North there’s a new promotion by the HSE to improve awareness of the dangers of agricultural workplace and farming hazards, with a special emphasis on how age is a big factor as our reflexes slow.
