The winter flu season arrived several weeks earlier this year, with a highly virulent new strain called H3N2 subclade K. H3 flu tends to be more severe than other types. There is no flu that is not severe though.
The bug is hitting young and old alike. Doctors are predicting that the height of the flu surge this winter will come just in time for Christmas - just the type of Christmas prezzie you don’t want!
Meanwhile the bird flu continues to impact on new farms - both sides of the border have been affected in Ireland.
