Data suggests this year is on track to be the sunniest, driest and consistently warmest yet.Almost 1,200 hours of sunshine had been recorded by July, Met Office data shows. That was comfortably more sun than in any of the past 20 years, and 250 hours more than the 2005-25 average.The previous sunshine record was set in 2003, when temperatures of 38.5C were recorded.The August heatwave duly arrived - this summer is set to break records both in the UK and Ireland.
