Rising food prices will add almost £300 to annual UK household grocery bills, according to data.
Grocery inflation rose from 4.7 per cent in June to 5.2 per cent in July, the highest level since January last year, according to Worldpanel, formerly known as Kantar.
Analysts say if food prices remain high, it could increase average household grocery spending, by an extra £275 per year.
Data from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and NielsenIQ showed shop price inflation increased again to 0.7 per cent in July.
