Stalker notes in all the chat in the UK media on the EU-UK trade deal that has just been done there has been very little attention to the difference it’ll make for the agri-food trade between Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
In Irish media the significance of the new alignment is well understood.
The easing of checks and bureaucracy in the trade flows between EU and the UK will make significant difference to the headaches faced by businesses importing and exporting, and trading across the Irish Sea.
No doubt there’ll be bleating a plenty too - but for now some modicum of sense has been restored to trading relations.
Let’s hope the direction of travel in this regard remains positive.
