The Red List report compiled by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has found that a third, or 411 of the 1,300 species of fungi it assessed, are at risk of extinction.
"Fungi are crucial to all life. Without fungi, an ecosystem can collapse quickly," said Caroline Pollock, Senior Programme Coordinator in IUCN's Red List Unit.
Obviously we live in a time of peril for the natural habitat, and that peril seems only to be increasing at present.
