Stalker received this little snippet via whatsapp recently from a contributor:
Fake News Watch -The Mushroom Diet “Starting the day with mushrooms could help you shed pounds from your waistline, new research has found,” declared one recent newspaper headline. Before you rush for the portobello, here’s the full story.
The small US study required a group of university students to eat mushroom for breakfast for 10 days and meat for 10 days, with a 10 day break in between. What did the study conclude? Participants did feel less hungry after eating mushrooms rather than meat, but they didn’t consume any less at lunchtime and they didn’t lose weight. What’s more, with just 32 participants, the survey was statistically insignificant. It’s also worth noting that the research was funded by the Mushroom Council, a US organization aimed at persuading people the buy and eat mushrooms.Hmm.” The interesting thing for Stalker was, the contributor, a person known to eat like a bird and maintain a slimline figure, tagged the message “One reason to eat mushrooms!” So it looks like the original promotional message worked. Weird, huh?
