As we hit the longest day of the year on June 21st, we’ve just had the hottest day of the year on June 20th, with Met Éireann recording a temperature of 29.6C in Co Roscommon in the afternoon.

Temperatures in the UK are expected to rise to 33C this weekend, with human-caused climate change blamed for increasing the chances of such extreme heat.
