Monaghan Mushrooms are set to open their new state-of-the-art mushroom growing facility at Tyholland in Co. Monaghan today Monday August 16 2010.
Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith will officially open the 12 million-euro site, which has been heralded as one of the most modern plants of its kind in Europe.
Around 150 jobs for Co Monaghan will be announced at the new site. Comprising 18 individual mushroom-growing houses, the new facility will have an output of 115 tonnes of mushrooms per week, equal to an annual output of 5,980 tonnes, the vast majority of which will be exported to the UK.
As mentioned the new facility is made up of 18 individual mushroom growing houses that together provide a total growing area of 21,306 square metres. Each unit is equipped with the latest technology used in mushroom production including energy-efficient geothermal heating, cooling and humidification systems to guarantee a consistently high quality of product.
Monaghan head man, Ronnie Wilson, said the new development would have a very positive impact on Monaghan Mushrooms and the whole town by delivering even greater productivity and bringing employment.
