The Horticultural Development Company (HDC) has produced Mushrooms Review magazine to summarise its latest mushrooms research for growers.
The mushroom magazine provides brief summaries of a number of projects, the reasons for undertaking them, the objective of each and the principal results delivered. It also details the newly commissioned work and what it aims to deliver to the industry.
The magazine also outlines how the HDC operates on growers' behalf, who decides how the mushroom levy money should be spent and how growers can influence these decisions.
It also reminds growers how the HDC communicates with them, the publications it has produced and how to make contact with panel members and the HDC technical manager for mushrooms.
The HDC's panel chairman for mushrooms Mark Komatsu, of Oakfield Farm Products, said: "There has been a terrific response to this publication from growers, many of whom had not been completely aware of the depth of research being undertaken on their behalf. It has also initiated more interest in the future research needs of the mushroom industry in the UK."
- The magazine is available for viewing on the mushroom sector page of the HDC website www.hdc.org.uk. Extra paper copies are available. Contact Kirsty Nichols at HDC on 0247 647 8677 or email kirsty.nichols@hdc.org.uk.
The Mushroom sector is the second smallest of the 7 HDC sector Panels contributing approximately 4% of the annual HDC income. This sector primarily comprises the range of Agaricus bisporus products, but also includes the much smaller level of production of various exotic species.
